This week, in Frequency Earth news...

...recording has begun on season 2, even as writing continues. Our production board is slowly changing colors like creepy alien leaves in space-autumn.

...Season one, episode two is now available! This week, The Jeff learns what Command considers disposable, and takes a trip to the ship's casino. The first appearance of fragments between transmissions! The transmissions themselves, including Herding Cats, TMI for the CIA, and The Minotaur! Some people would say that episode 2 is one better than episode 1, but I'd say it's twice as good! Give it a listen!

Frequency Earth 101: Unthawing

The first episode of my 'new' podcast, Frequency Earth, is now available!

Frequency Earth is a rebrand of a show I did circa 2010, then called Better Radio, in which an archeo-astronomer travels through space picking up broadcasts from Earth. It's one part sketch show (the transmissions) and one part sitcom (the ship).  Although we are currently in production on a brand new series of episodes, we're revving up to them by re-broadcasting our original series, plus unfinished, unheard, 'lost' material from the original run.

Muphry's Law: A Closer Look

Muphry's Law, McKean's Law, Hartman's Law: You're totally going to have a spelling or grammar mistake in that thing you wrote attacking someone for their grammar or spelling. 

It's true facts, and I think it's great. I say, why not put your own error in their somewhere so at least you know where it is? Like being the first person to scratch the paint on your new car.

How To: Reveal One Layer With Another

I saw a post online where someone was all confused about how to make something like this clip here, so I told him all you need is three layers:

• Top layer: someone shot on green screen, keyed, with posterize time.
• Middle layer: foreground art, using top layer as an alpha matte.
• Bottom layer: background art!

And then that guy was all like, "Isn't there a youtube tutorial that takes 45 minutes to give me that same information? Preferably one full of self-promotional nonsense at the beginning and end?" So...

I made one! Except it's only 96 seconds long. I'm sure I'll learn to pad them out as I go.

Comedy Central offers the whole archive of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart online, which makes this as good a time as any to share with you one of my very favorite jokes, the second story in this segment.

I just read The Daily Show (The Book) and started visiting some of the clips referred to in the book like the Alphabet Game and this disastrous interview – I'm surprised that neither the publisher, nor their interns, nor an enterprising netizen* has put together a full list of links to everything referenced. Maybe it was on their already-lapsed website. I'm pretty sure that compiling such a list myself is not a good use of my time.

*I understand the modern term is probably "redditor."
