Hold Everything!

Wait! Stop! I've just been struck! With wonder! Was 'Night Court' an inherently goofy premise? Or are there really courts open at night? I have no idea, but on other programs, it seems like when you get arrested you go into the cell until morning. Or...something. I thought they worked on banker's hours, pretty much.

Not dissimilarly, you've got the phrase 'go in, guns blazing, rambo style!' Or at least the sentiment. But wasn't his style more of a divide-and-conquer thing? Lots of lethal traps? Sneak up behind you with a knife? There's so much out there to learn from things I haven't watched yet!

A little casual racism...

I recently discovered a delightful OSX application called Monolingual. It's designed to remove unused alternate language packs from your mac.  As you can imagine, I was relieved not only to regain nearly a gigabyte of hard disk space, but to rid my machine of all that horrible Portuguese!

It's times like these one can really make the most of an arbitrary, baseless prejudice.  Take that, Portugal!

Is that really something?

Are there actually people who believe that [terrorist organization] could sneak a politician into the system with the end goal of making him president, at which point he'll pull off a rubber mask and yell 'gotcha!' and now [terror] will own the United States?   And if so, shouldn't that be more or less allowed anyway?  Isn't that sort of thing the point of the idealized description of our form of government?

Or do they think it'll all be done hush-hush, like they get their guy in, and he makes sure that everything's cool when they try to attack us, and they have him arrange to do things to bring down the country from within, by misdirecting the public focus, damaging and dismantling 'public good' programs, tanking the economy, lowering our allies' esteem of us, peeling back civil rights...wait a minute....hm.

Bloody Hell

One thing that I think surprised me, like as soon as I got to LA, staying on a couch in Russell's apartment, trying to get set up out here, was how crappy 'Hollywood' seemed. I guess it's the same sort of decay you get in any major metro area, but I was still surprised. All the run down everything. And somehow, like an idiot, that's where I live now. And for the third time in about six months, I've been burgled. The first time was pretty quick after I got here, and then when I went out of town for a week someone took parts of my bike. This time was the car again. In the garage, again. Except this time the glass was smashed. All kinds of mess was made as the burglar searched for valuables, but somehow missed the tray of coins and paper money, again. Once again, they opened the glove box and didn't want any of the gloves. Once again, they didn't take any of the piratey stuff, or the tools, or the maps. The only thing that went this time was the sun visor CD holder, with maybe 8 or 10 TMBG and BMG CDs. There were several CDs loose in the cabin, and CD cases, and stacks in the doors, and those were all untouched.
